Advanced Website Design

What is advance website design? In the early days of the Internet website design technology was restricted to static pages based on Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). By the mid 90's website design technology  had advanced significantly, the introduction of animation technology such as Flash by Macromedia and the use of databases brought about a new era in website design resulting in the  creation of dynamic website solutions. The introduction of databases opened up the Internet to e-business, businesses could now trade online by storing their product details in a database and presenting them in a catalogue format, payment gateway technology became available to facilitate financial transactions and e-commerce was born.  Webmaster who manage websites now require a quality suite of tools to allow them to manage online catalogues and update website content that is stored in the database. These tools are delivered byway of a Content Management System (CMS) which interacts with the online database. Very few website are pure HTML these days as online customers have come to expect a high level of functionality and interaction on websites they visit,

It would be impossible to cover all of the advance technologies used today when discussion website design so we will restrict our discussion to some of the most popular. We will first look at how design has been separated from structure using Cascading Style Sheets as this technique can be used even on the most basic of website designs. We will then explore a dynamic website structure from a high level perspective, then move on to the technologies use in the  development process and how they differ. Finally giving consideration to what is involved in the use of a CMS and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) when managing a website.
